Groovy Christmas Music

I’ve been searching for a decent Christmas playlist for a few weeks.

And hadn’t found anything that took my fancy. Maybe the Glee Christmas CD might be good? I do love All I Want for Christmas from the Love Actually Soundtrack and you can’t beat Last Christmas by Wham..one of my favourites..or even Hi 5′s Santa Claus is Coming which we still play even though my kids have outgrown Hi 5 these days!

Anyway, I was reading Tamar’s blog this morning and came across her post on Christmas music and then i was click, click, clicking her links and found myself at this blog, Modern Kiddo.

Vintage and design lovin’ mama Alix is one half of Modern Kiddo and she sums up a bit how I was feeling about all the Christmas music I was listening to in my search to find a great playlist. Alix says, “Back in the day, Christmas music was so much more fun and interesting. Nowadays I feel like all we get are the “diva” croonings of the latest R&B star slaughtering an old carol with vocal acrobatics. In the 50s, 60s, 70s people actually wrote new christmas songs and did innovative versions of old standards. There were also TONS of compilations featuring all the stars of the day..

Check out the Modern Kiddo blog to see some very groovy old Christmas album covers in Alix’s vintage collection. The pop up album is my favourite!!! Go check it out.

AND Alix has TWO retro Christmas playlists to download – for FREE! Alix’s Retro Holiday Mix here and Alix’s Retro Holiday Mix, Vol 2 here.

Dean Martin’s Silver Bells transports me straight back to my grandparent’s home in the 70′s when my grandad would ALWAYS have Christmas music playing when we would arrive late Christmas Eve after hours of travelling from Parkes to spend Christmas with the family in Sydney.

So hurry on over and let your home be filled with Dean Martin singing Silver Bells and Johnny Mathis’ Sleigh Bells, The Partridge Family’s Rockin’ Round the Christmas Tree, our family favourite: Santa Claus is Coming to Town by the Jackson 5 and Angela “Murder She Wrote” Lansbury’s We Need A Little Christmas…because we DO…

We all …

…need a little music,
Need a little laughter,
Need a little singing
Ringing through the rafter,
And we need a little snappy
“Happy ever after,”
Need a little Christmas now.
Need a little Christmas now.

That song is stuck in your head now isn’t it!!!?? Merry Christmas :)
